Gianca (Paolo Briguglia), a young saxophonist meets modest trumpeter Nick (Claudio Santamaria) on a train heading for the Umbria Jazz Festival. Though Gianca's years of training in a musical household contrast sharply with Nick's untutored talent, the two form a strong friendship on their return to Bologna, with Nick even striking up a relationship with Gianca’s sister Gilberta (Selvaggia Quattrini). The two musicians set about forming a quintet, but to Gianca’s surprise, the group quickly puts the spotlight on Nick's natural ability and he begins to really shine…
